Low number of car seats installed correctly at car seat event

Many parents aren’t using their child’s car seat properly.

Brockville Police and Seats for Kids partnered for a car seat clinic at the Canadian Tire in Brockville on Tuesday.

Officials looked at 82 car seats during the clinic and found that 96 percent weren’t being used correctly. Only four out of the 82 seats checked demonstrated proper use.

Brockville Police Service says the most common errors included the top tethers being too loose, seats that weren’t appropriate for the child’s age and development, loose installation straps, or the harness being too loose.

During the event, Seats for Kids, a non-profit organization from Ottawa, replaced 14 car seats at no cost. You can learn more at seatsforkids.ca.
