OPP revisiting Nation River Lady case

The OPP are asking for the public’s assistance with another old, unsolved case.

The OPP have announced that under the direction of Detective Inspector Daniel Nadeau of the Criminal Investigation Branch officers from Russel County OPP and East Region Criminal Operations have been reviewing the evidence while exploring investigation options. A 3-D clay facial reconstruction has been made by OPP Forensic Reconstruction Analyst, Provincial Constable Duncan Way using advanced technology.

On May 3rd, 1975 a farmer discovered the remains of a woman in the Nation River, south of the Town of Casselman, a short distance from the 417 bridge. The woman remains unidentified and became known as the Nation River Lady. Police describe her as white, between 25-50 years old, standing between 5’2” and 5’8”, average build, approximately 100 lbs with brown hair that had been dyed a reddish blond. She was wearing a navy blue body suit with a collar, buttons three quarters of the way down the front, long sleeves and snaps securing the crotch area. Her toe and finger nails were manicured and painted with pink polish. She had a scar from an appendix operation and wore partial upper and lower dentures.

According to police the woman’s body was wrapped with two pieces of green cloth and two towels. One towel showed an Irish Toast and the other displayed multiple flowers. Police also found a j-cloth, black coaxial cable and curtain rod runner with her body. Her hands and feet were bound with neckties. One was a small blue tie with small Canadian flag emblems known as “the Canadian tie”, another blue striped silk and the third was red with yellow patterning.

Police say the woman’s DNA and fingerprints are still on file. They are asking anyone with information about this homicide to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or that Nation River Lady dedicated tip-line at 613-591-2296.
