The Village of Spencerville is officially a ‘place that matters’.
The partnership between the Spencerville Mill Foundation and Spencerville Business & Community Connections has officially resulted in a win for Spencerville in the This Place Matters crowd sourcing contest. The Spencerville team has been awarded the Small Projects National Prize of $30,000. The prize was awarded to the project that crowdsourced the most money. The Spencerville team was able to pass their target goal of $17,000 raised.
The contest ran for a month and asked teams to raise both money and votes of support for their project. Spencerville was leading the contest at the start but with two weeks left they were moved to second place by an initiative out of Guelph. According to the Spencerville team Guelph was leading the contest before Spencerville donors put them back in the lead with just two minutes left on the deadline. Some community fundraisers include 14-year-old Max LaSalle who raised over $1,100 in three days out front of the Village Pantry and Spencer City owner JoAnne Moulton who raised several hundred dollars by asking customers to add donations to their bills.
The Spencerville team says they raised $25,394 during the initiative and collected 26,675 votes for their project. The money is going towards rejuvenating Spencerville Riverside Park. A celebration for the community is planned for 7:00pm on August 9th at the Spencer City Bar and Grill. A full list of winning projects from the contest can be found below.
