The Town of Prescott is taking the next step towards improving parks and recreation in town.
At last night’s Town Council Meeting a motion carried unanimously that will see the town ask for $27,000 in matching funds from the Grenville Community Futures Development Corporation. The money will be used to retain consultants who will help develop a Town of Prescott Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
The Master Plan was accounted for in the 2017 budget and according to the town should help with; park planning, delivery of programs and services, as well as facility development, re-development and expansion. Originally the town budgeted $20,000, and a matching grant, for the Master Plan but after receiving submissions it was determined the budget was too low. Council has decided they must ask for $27,000 dollars in matching funds in order to properly fund the Master Plan.
The additional $7,000 will come from the development charges reserve where the town has money dedicated to consulting fees and parks. It was also noted that even if the request for matching funds is turned down the town has enough money to move forward with the project. If that is the case a new report will be brought before the mayor and councillors.
Prescott has already received four submissions but cannot pick a winning proposal until they have been approved for matching funds by the Grenville Community Futures Development Corporation.
