OPP arrest man for assaulting citizen

Officers at the Leeds detachment of the OPP are continuing their investigation after a citizen was assaulted.

Police say around 9:00pm on July 12th they responded to calls of a man impeding traffic on the 1000 Islands Parkway in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township. A concerned citizen stopped to assist the man when he became violent towards the citizen. Police say the 44-year-old Ottawa man then jumped on the citizen’s vehicle, causing considerable damage. The accused then tried to enter the vehicle as the citizen attempted to drive away. According to police one of their officers was also assaulted while trying to place the accused under arrest.

The accused is now facing charges of: mischief over $5,000, assault, resisting a peace officer, assaulting a police officer, and failure to comply with a probation order under the Criminal Code of Canada. He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial Division in Brockville.
