OPP investigating after false report of vehicle theft

The OPP are continuing their investigation after receiving a false report about a vehicle theft.

Grenville OPP says on January 15th officers received a report about a stolen Chevrolet Suburban, and equipment in the vehicle, from Augusta Township. The Suburban was found later in Edwardsburg Township, it had sustained minimal damage and was missing the equipment alleged to be in the vehicle when it was taken. According to police on June 22nd, after executing a search warrant on a business on County Road 29 in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township, they seized contraband. The items seized included weapons, ammunition, handheld radios, laptop, emergency vehicle lighting accessories and related documents.

Police say a 38-year-old from Elizabethtown-Kitley Township was arrested and is now facing charges of fraud over $5000, public mischief, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, careless storage of a firearm, two counts of possession of a restricted weapon at an unauthorised place, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and possession of a restricted firearm and ammunition. The accused has already appeared in bail court and the investigation continues.
