St. Lawrence College honours locals

St. Lawrence College has two new graduates and they’re of the honorary kind.

On Friday at this year’s convocation for St. Lawrence College Brockville campus honorary diplomas were given to both Jim Cooper and Mary Mansworth. St. Lawrence College says the diplomas acknowledge and celebrate an individual’s long-standing contributions to their communities, as well as their dedication to the college.

According to St. Lawrence College Mary Mansworth has been a tireless community volunteer since moving to Brockville in 1976 from Cork, Ireland. The college says Mary is currently; chair of the Brockville and Area YMCA’s Strong Kids Annual Giving Campaign, co-chair of the annual local Empty Bowls Fundraiser, a member of the Brockville 100 Women Who Care initiative and a board member on the St. Lawrence College Foundation board. They added that she serves on a number of committees including the Brockvillle Refugee Committee and the Wall Street Village Affordable Seniors’ Housing Project.

Jim Cooper is the part owner and president of global manufacturing firm Canarm Limited, which was recognized as one of Canada’s best managed companies by CIBC and Deloitte professional services in 2012. St. Lawrence College pointed to Jim’s co-chairing of Brockville’s annual Palliative Care Golf Tournament, his service on the board of the Brockville General Hospital Foundation and being the chairman of the Student Advisory Council for Loyalist College’s Business Sales and Marketing program in Belleville as reasons he received the honour.
