Brockville Student Wins Ontario Junior Citizen Award

12-year-old Corbin Evans of Brockville has been awarded the Ontario Junior Citizen Award.

The grade six student at Vanier Public School was in Toronto on Monday to receive his recognition and meet with Ontario’s Lieutenant General.

Corbin’s teacher Michelle Peters says it has been a privilege to work with Corbin in the school’s humanitarian-based rotary club, which he has been a member of since he was in grade two.

Peters says he leads by example, is a respectful young man, a model student, and someone that his peers look up to and respect.

Peters also says Corbin goes above and beyond in any volunteer or community task taken on at school, and takes his efforts outside the school walls.

Peters notes a specific time where Corbin helped fundraise and organize a birthday party for 100 children at an orphanage in Belarus. Corbin also flew to Belarus to host the event.

The Ontario Junior Citizen Award recognizes youth between the ages of six to 17 for their community service and commitment to bettering the lives of others.
