Heritage Design Chosen For Prescott’s New Fire Hall

A final design for Prescott’s new fire hall has been chosen.

Members of Committee of the Whole voted in favour of a heritage design that incorporates limestone along the lower half of the building and classic red brick along the upper half.

Architects from Architecture 49 were at last night’s committee meeting to present two new heritage designs and answer questions. The representatives said the red brick chosen for the building is a traditional Ontario red brick that can be seen all around the town of Prescott.

The red-bricked option chosen buy committee members runs an extra $10,000 in materials and $20,000 in labour for the masonry, but still remains within the $5-million budget for the hall.

Mayor Brett Todd says he is happy finding a design that finally fits the look of the town.

Representatives also reassured staff and neighbours in attendance that the building do a good job blocking sound from the fire engines as well.

Plans to install fencing along the north side of the hall and green spaces around the perimeter are details that Todd says still need to be discussed, as well as the redesign of the bell monument on the front corner of the property.

Designs can now move toward the construction phase. The town plans to tender the construction offer out to companies around May, with work starting on the site in the late summer months.
