Inquest into death of Jamie Hawley to begin December 7th

The East Region Coroner has announced the date for the inquest into the death of Prescott resident Jamie Hawley. The disabled man died in 2008 at the age of 41. He was living under the care of his brother Jerry Hawley when he died of starvation, infected bed sores and pneumonia. Jerry Hawley was found guilty of manslaughter in 2013, and is serving twenty years in prison.

After examining the circumstances surrounding the disabled man’s death, the jury may make recommendations for changes to legal and social services so that similar deaths are avoided in the future. The inquest is expected to last for ten days, hearing from 28 witnesses and it starts December 7th.
