OPP wants you to be safe on your snowmobile

The OPP is reminding you to be safe if you go snowmobiling this winter.

Police are asking you to make sure to maintain your snowmobile, plan your trip, let people know where you’re going, and check the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs’ website for trail conditions.

Police are also asking you to ride on the right side of the trail, know the proper hand signals, and use extra caution during the evening or at night. It’s important to ride within your abilities, and adjust your speed depending on trail conditions.

You are being asked to remember to be cautious on trails, as they are usually found in an unpredictable and uncontrollable natural environment, and because sudden curves and bumps are common, it’s important to always be ready for anything.

You should also carry emergency supplies with you, and learn first aid and survival skills.

Police also remind you to follow the laws around snowmobiling, because if you don’t, you could get demerit points on your driver’s license.
