With the region’s first true winter snow storm wreaking havoc on drivers, the OPP has put out a list of winter driving tips to help travellers get to where they’re going safely.
Police have put out the following tips to drivers:
- Pack an emergency kit for your vehicle.
- Leave extra stopping distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
- Learn and practice winter driving techniques before you need them.
- Check road and weather conditions ahead of time.
- Remove all snow from your vehicle before each trip.
- Give yourself extra travel time in bad weather.
- Avoid using cruise control on slippery roads.
- Travel with a fully charged cell phone.
- Slow down and wear your seatbelt.
From just Sunday afternoon to Monday morning when the snow first started to fall, the OPP had responded to 15 collisions on area roads.
