Townships discuss recent economic development at inaugural summit

At last week’s inaugural Summit, Clerk Debra McKinstry of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal outlined some of the economic development activity that has been happening in their township. The items outlined in the 2012 Economic Development Strategy have been put into action, including the investment in Community Development Coordinator Shelbi Deacon, which she says is really paying off.

Community Improvement Plans were developed and launched for the villages of Cardinal and Spencerville. Also a new brand was created for the Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal and applied to signage.

Also during the Summit, Augusta CAO Pierre Mercier said developing a section of the industrial park on County Road 2 has been a key focus for the township. He says there has been a renewed interest in the area, including the DuPont building that was set for demolition, now bought to be repurposed.

Mercier said the township undertook the site certification process to develop industrial lands in partnership with Invista Canada.
