North Grenville DHS wins OT thriller over St. Michael’s

Miliana Patterson scored 27 points to pace North Grenville District High School senior girl’s basketball team to a 51-48 overtime win over St. Michael’s last Thursday.

The Knights improved to 2-3 on the Leeds and Grenville Secondary Schools Athletic Association season.

Head coach Sean Kelly said his team showed good balance on the court in the rivalry game.

“Defensively we did a good job limiting their best players and only allowing them one shot on many possessions. On offense, when we moved the ball and executed, our sets created scoring opportunities.”

Kelly said next play mentality has been a major focus. Since the first practice of the season, he has emphasized they are “building our program.”

Charlotte Meunier, a junior team call-up, scored 10 points and added 6 rebounds for the Knights.

The Mustangs dropped to 1-3. Halle Paquin scored 20 points for the Mustangs.

Coach Jordan Bernier was positive in defeat and confident in the Mustangs’ ability to bounce back.

“We’ve had a great season so far, travelling to three tournaments and being able to compete with strong teams from across the province. Our team has a ton of talent. We’ve seen that translate on the court and improved throughout the season.”

North Grenville and St. Michael’s have locked up spots in the LGSSAA playoffs and meet again in the AA semi-final.

Bernier believes both schools are proud of running competitive junior and senior teams.

“With fewer schools having two teams, both Kemptville schools accomplishing this is a great sign for girls’ basketball in our area.”
