First shipment of battery energy storage units for Skyview 2 project arrives

It’s another step for the construction of Canada’s largest battery storage project.

The first shipment of battery energy storage units destined for the Skyview 2 Battery Energy Storage System project in Edwardsburgh Cardinal arrived at the Port of Johnstown last week.

Officials say the shipment included 70 battery storage units to be temporarily stored at the port before being transported to the project site later this month.

Additional shipments are expected as the project continues.

Once complete, the system, a partnership between developer Potentia and the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, will provide enough capacity to power nearly 400,000 homes.

When fully operational in 2027, the facility will store electricity from Ontario’s electricity grid during periods of low demand and return that stored power to the system when demand is higher.
