Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett says he’s going to continue to encourage the Carney government to increase the way they support Canadians.
Barrett says we are in an affordability crisis with the cost of items like groceries and gasoline high and he says his Conservative party is going to closely study what was proposed in the spring economic update the was released earlier this week.
Key measures in the update include Canada’s first national sovereign wealth fund and affordability measures like previously announced temporary gas tax relief and the Groceries and Essentials Benefit.
Barrett tells Moose FM that he’s in support of the new nationwide effort to recruit, train, and hire 80,000 to 100,000 new skilled trade workers over the next five years.
“This is an area that Canada’s youth should consider and the government has a role to play in supporting their entry into this important sector.”
Barrett adds that he’ll continue to listen to the concerns of the residents in his riding and making sure they are represented in Ottawa.
