Second snowmobile crashes through ice into Rideau River in seven days

Snowmobile drivers are again being reminded to avoid traveling on ice where the conditions are unknown.

The message from police comes after a second snowmobile crashed through the ice on the Rideau River near Kemptville in the past seven days.

This time, East Region OPP say it happened around 5 p.m. Sunday on the river near County Road 43.

Police tell Moose FM that the rider wasn’t hurt and didn’t require medical treatment but he will have to retrieve his snowmobile when it’s safe to do so.

A snowmobile driver was treated for hypothermia last Monday after their snowmobile crashed into the river near Burritts Rapids.
