The early steps are being taken on Habitat for Humanity Thousand Islands new build in Prescott.
Four semi-detached homes are being built on James Street West, right behind Prescott Town Hall, on land that was declared surplus in 2023.
It was purchased by Habitat for Humanity with a groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this month and the hope is it will be completed and able to be moved into in the fall of 2026.
Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar tells Moose FM that the complex will be named Lockett Place in honor of Councilor Ruth Lockett who passed away in late March.
“We’re going to have more houses in Prescott so it’s a win and it’s named Lockett Place, you couldn’t ask for a better dedication to a great human being.”
Applications for future residents of the complex will be available online in the next few weeks.
