Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says he plans to meet with Ogdensburg New York Mayor Michael Tooley again in the future.
The comment comes after the two got together at Prescott Town Hall last Friday where Shankar says they talked about how they feel on certain issues and tried to find common ground.
Shankar says both are newly elected and they want to show that despite a change in leadership at the very top in the U.S., President Donald Trump, that relations between the two countries remain vital.
He tells Moose FM that both sides are facing the same issue.
“We’re not getting the American tourism, they’re not getting the Canadian tourism, so how can we increase that and make things better. We’re not going to wait for big government to figure everything out, let’s just figure it out on our own.”
Shankar says he’d like to invite the council from the American city for another visit going forward.
