Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says our neighbours across the border are our friends, customers and allies.
Shankar tells Moose FM that’s why he reached out to Ogdensburg New York Mayor Michael Tooley a few weeks ago to set up an in person meeting between the two.
He says both are newly elected and he wants to show that despite a change in leadership at the very top in the U.S., President Donald Trump, that relations between the two countries remain vital.
Shankar says Tooley was very receptive to the idea and they will be getting together on Friday for an informal discussion.
He says he’d like to invite the council from the American city for another visit going forward.
“Just even a social gathering where we meet each other and if we have common questions or concerns we can address them right there.”
Shankar adds that travel between local residents and those from the U.S. continues for everything from shopping to entertainment.
