Prescott declares June Pride Month

Prescott residents are being encouraged to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Before their regular meeting Monday night, Prescott Council raised the Pride Flag at town hall and officially declared June Pride Month.

In his proclamation, Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar said celebrating Pride fosters awareness, education, and deeper understanding of the rich diversity within our community and affirms that everyone deserves to live free from discrimination and prejudice.

He added that the Town of Prescott is committed to creating an environment where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression—is valued, respected, and able to live with dignity.

Pride Month originated from the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969.
