Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says residents in the region should know they are living in a safe area.
He says that’s what he came away with following the first meeting of the South Grenville OPP Detachment Board earlier this week.
Shankar says members were told by police that that there’s been an uptick in the number of drug related charges laid between January and April this year over last, meaning officers are finding the perpetrators and taking them off the street.
Unlike the past where they had separate boards, Shankar tells Moose FM that meetings now include representation from Prescott, Augusta Township and Edwardsburgh Cardinal.
“It saves meeting times for everybody because a lot of the statistics that we get from the OPP Commander reflects on all of us.”
Shankar adds the board will meet four times a year.
