Leeds County OPP are investigating after human remains were located on an island on the St. Lawrence River.
Police say they responded to the island near Gananoque around 10 a.m. Monday after an individual reported making the discovery.
The identity of the deceased has not been determined and police say it’s not known how long they have been deceased, a post mortem examination will be conducted.
There is not believed to be any indication of a risk to public safety.
The Leeds OPP Crime Unit is investigating in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
