UCDSB investing $1.5 million in purchasing books for students

A historic single investment will welcome local public school board students with significantly expanded classroom libraries and school book collections this fall.

The Upper Canada District School Board is putting $1.5 million towards purchasing reading books for students with each of the board’s schools receiving between $13,000 to $26,000 to spend on books.

Officials say the funds have been allocated based on student enrolment at each school.

A minimum of fifteen per cent of the funds will be spent on books that reflect Indigenous culture.

School staff have been encouraged to work with other educators, parent councils and students to collaborate on the types of books and titles that are purchased.
