You are being warned about questionable paving contractors that have surfaced in eastern Ontario in past years.
Ontario Provincial Police say complaints were received last year about subpar paving work, and they say it appeared that municipal by-laws may not have been followed by the contractors.
Police say some tips you can follow include not rushing into a deal and being sure to get it all in writing.
You should also be suspicious when someone asks you for money before the work is started and do your research and ask for references.
If you believe you have been the victim of a fraud you should contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
