It`s being called a landmark move to strengthen Canada`s infrastructure.
The Port of Johnstown, V6 Agronomy, an independent Canadian fertilizer company, and the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal have signed off on a long-term partnership.
The agreement will see the port serve as the company`s eastern Canadian import hub for fertilizer inputs and logistics.
Officials say the partnership delivers value to farmers by having more predictable access to affordable, high-quality fertilizers that are not otherwise available via Canadian manufacturers.
They add it also benefits local communities though economic revitalization through manufacturing, jobs, and exports.
Edwardsburgh Cardinal Mayor Tory Deschamps tells Moose FM the partnership is about taking advantage of what the port has to offer.
“We`re looking at it a little differently, not from a protectionism standpoint but we know that people are looking to reshore jobs and to bring jobs, product and production back to Canada so we see it as an opportunity for growth.”
The Port of Johnstown is owned and operated by Edwardsburgh Cardinal.
