A major road reconstruction project is going ahead in Prescott.
Ken Miller Excavating Ltd. has been hired for the reconstruction of East Street at the cost of $1.84 million.
Officials say the town received six bids for the project, with Ken Miller Excavating Ltd. coming in the lowest, and the work will include a full-depth removal and replacement of water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer on East Street between King Street and James Street.
The work will be divided up into two different parts, with the first part slated as the section of East Street from King Street to Dibble Street, and the second part the section of East Street from Dibble Street to James Street.
The proposed design will have a sidewalk on one side of the road only, on the west side from King Street to Dibble and on the East side from Dibble to James, allowing for the road to be approximately 1.5m wider than its current layout.
The cost of the work was already budgeted for by the town and staff will now coordinate with the contractor to determine whether both parts will be completed in 2025, or if the second part will be done next year.
