Children and youth dealing with food insecurity will have a new place to turn this summer in Prescott.
A new summer cold lunch pilot program has received support from Prescott Town Council and will run Monday to Friday from July 7 to August 29.
Officials say the community-based initiative is designed to provide 25 free, nutritious, and ready-to-eat cold lunches to children and youth (ages 4–18) and was designed to be in place with other similar programs take a break for the summer.
They add it will support healthy development and engagement through consistent meal access in an inclusive and stigma-free environment.
The meals will be handed out at the community shed and canteen in Centennial Park or an alternate location if it’s raining.
The total cost of the program, projected to be just over $9,600, will be sustainably covered through a combination of grants, community support, and municipal resources.
