Prescott hosting open house on wastewater treatment plant expansion

Prescott is thinking outside of the box when it comes to building new homes and attracting more residents to the area.

Mayor Gauri Shankar says while the town is landlocked and there’s not a lot of growth potential, neighboring Augusta Township has all sorts of potential but needs access to services like wastewater for new homes to be built.

Shankar says the town and Augusta Township partnered together and received just over $17 million from the province to expand its wastewater treatment plant to cover new  subdivisions that would be built.

He says that will lead to an economic boost for the town with more people moving in.

“They are going to end up shopping, eating, playing in Prescott as it’s the urban centre for that area so it’s a win-win for everybody.”

A public open house on the expansion for the wastewater treatment plant is taking place on Wednesday evening at Prescott Town Hall.
