Update: South Nation Conservation extends Flood Watch Statement

The Flood Watch Statement for our area has been extended again.

South Nation Conservation says Environment Canada is forecasting precipitation amounts up to 10 mm from Thursday to Saturday. They say that the temperatures are expected to return to seasonal day-time highs with sub-zero temperatures at night.

Widespread flooding isn’t anticipated, but officials say the watershed is still reacting to widespread snow and ice melt and recent precipitation, which have increased water levels and flows in local streams and rivers.

They add that fast flowing water and flooding of low-lying areas, floodplains, and areas with poor drainage is possible.

You are advised to use extreme caution when near rivers and waterbodies because of the increasing river flows and slippery conditions. Any ice-covered bodies of water are considered unsafe. Parents are also encouraged to explain the dangers to their children.
