Update: South Nation Conservation extends Flood Watch Statement

Widespread snow and melting ice has prompted South Nation Conservation to extend its Flood Watch Statement for the region.

Officials say after the precipitation we saw this this weekend, water levels and flows in local streams and rivers have increased.

While widespread flooding is not anticipated, flowing water and flooding of low-lying areas, floodplains, and areas with poor drainage is possible.

The SNC says rivers across the jurisdiction will see higher water levels, fast flowing water and slippery or unstable banks.

Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when near rivers and other bodies of water because of increasing river flows and slippery conditions.

Those living in flood prone or low-lying areas, historically susceptible to flooding, should take the necessary precautions to protect their property.
