South Nation Conservation issues Water Safety Statement

Keep a close eye on water conditions near your home if you live in a flood-prone area for the next few weeks.

That’s a message from South Nation Conservation, which has issued another Water Safety Statement, the third in the last 30 days.

Staff members say nearly all snow has melted in the southeast region of the Ottawa River watershed.

They say that early melting has led to higher water levels across the region, and even though some cooler weather and snow over the next few days could alleviate it, they can’t rule out the possibility for flooding.

Staff say residents should stay away from fast-flowing bodies of water.

Other steps you can take to protect your home from flooding include securing anything that could float away, making sure your sump pump works, and having a backup generator and pump on standby.

The Water Safety Statement is in effect until April 8th.
