SGDHS students outline 2024 Relay for Life fundraiser

After smashing their goal last year, the team organizing 2024’s South Grenville Relay for Life is hoping to raise $50,000 this year.

Anna Leonard and Jenna Whiteland, two of the students on the organizing committee for this year’s event, say it’s happening on May 30th, from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

All the money donated at the event will go towards the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Mainly, a lot of people run the track,” explains Leonard. “You can walk, run, whatever you want. It’s just to raise awareness for cancer and all that kind of stuff.”

If you want to participate, you’ll need to sign up as part of a team of ten people.

Whiteland adds that this year’s event has an ‘Olympics’ theme, and teams are encouraged to dress up for the occasion.

“Teams can pick any country,” she says. “They’re going to have to raise a minimum of $1,000. So, ten people, $100 each.”

Last year’s relay, held in June, raised more than $78,000.

If you want updates on the event, Leonard says you can follow @sgdhs_relay4life on Instagram and TikTok.

Whiteland also says the team is hosting a “Relay Rally” kick-off event for the fundraiser on March 28th.
