Prescott approves new Sophia Street stop signs

Prescott is taking steps to make the intersection near the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre safer for drivers and pedestrians.

At this week’s council meeting, Mayor Gauri Shankar and the rest of council approved a proposal to add two new stop signs to Sophia Street, at the intersection with Churchill Road West.

“I travel that road a lot, and I’ve seen two almost very serious [collisions], so I think it’s a great idea,” Councillor Ruth Lockett said during the meeting.

The new signs will turn the intersection into a three-way stop. Money for the sign was set aside in a previous operational budget for the town, so it won’t cost taxpayers any extra money.

Council ultimately voted unanimously in favor of the addition.
