2024 budget: drafts for Transportation and Recreation Services released

Prescott is looking to save money on transit and road maintenance and increase spending on recreation programming this year.

The draft budgets for Transportation and Recreation Services have been released.

If the draft goes unchanged, Transportation Services would see a net decrease in spending of 12.5 percent, largely because of staff from that department being re-allocated to work in Parks and Recreation.

Spending would also increase significantly on the River Route public transit service, from $31,500 in 2023 to more than $180,000. However, the report says that increase would be offset by the revenue it generates.

Meanwhile, the budget for Recreation Services would see a net increase of 20.4 percent, with large increases in staff salaries and spending on the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre.

The next portion of the draft budget, focused on planning and development, water and wastewater, and environmental spending, will be unveiled ahead of the February 5th council meeting.
