(UPDATE) Augusta Fire Rescue warning of scam calls targeting residents

UPDATE December 20th: The Prescott Fire Department has issued a warning saying this same scam is targeting Prescott residents, in addition to people living in Augusta. MyPrescottNow.com has arranged an interview with Prescott Fire Chief Renny Raynor to learn more.

Augusta Fire Rescue will never phone you asking for money.

That’s the message being spread by the fire department on social media.

Firefighters say scammers are impersonating the department over the phone, calling residents urging them to “donate money to their local fire department.”

Augusta Fire Rescue says this is “100 percent a scam,” adding that it would never raise money this way. If you get a call like this, firefighters are urging you to report it to the Grenville County OPP detachment.

We’ve contacted the fire department to learn more about the scam.
