Ground broken on new Dundas Manor building

A crowd of dozens of people celebrated progress on the Dundas Manor project in Winchester Friday morning.

A groundbreaking ceremony was organized by staff members to commemorate construction starting on its new, updated and improved building.

“If you’re here this morning, you’re a supporter of Dundas Manor, and you know how precious an asset, how precious a resource Dundas Manor is, not just for Winchester, but for the entire area,” Chief Executive Officer Cholly Boland said at the ceremony. “It’s the only long-term care home in North Dundas, South Dundas, North Stormont, and pulls and serves residents from all the areas around.”

The new manor will have room to support 30 more residents, as well as improvements to help workers and physicians provide them with the care.

Lisa Little, the Chair of the manor’s Board of Directors, said she was excited about the new facility, because the current one is difficult to work in.

“While the building structure may be the worst in the province – truly, the worst in the province – the care and magic that is delivered there and created for its residents and their families is the best in the province, if not the country,” Little said.

The new building is expected to open in 2026.
