OPP Festive RIDE campaign launches December 3rd

Police are hoping less people face impaired driving charges this holiday season compared to last year.

The OPP is preparing to launch its Festive RIDE campaign, setting up checkpoints to stop impaired drivers.

Last year’s campaign saw 217 charges issued for impaired driving in the OPP’s East region, and Grenville County Community Safety Officer Annie Collins says she hopes that number goes down.

“I’m hoping that that number is always lower,” she says. “I know that since the campaign took off over ten years ago, there’s probably been over 7,000 suspected impaired drivers taken off the road, so that’s quite a huge number. We’re obviously, every year, hoping to reduce that.”

The campaign begins on Friday, December 3rd, and runs until early January. If you see someone you suspect is driving impaired while you’re out on the roads, Collins says you should call 911 immediately.
