If you’re planning a trip south of the border during the long weekend, workers at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) say you’ll want to plan around long wait times.
Staff members say the Labour Day weekend can be particularly busy because it’s the last long weekend of the summer.
If you’re driving through a crossing like the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, they say you can look up wait times online so you can account for them in your route.
They also say you should try to cross in the early morning and avoid crossing on Monday if you don’t want to deal with extended wait times.
Meanwhile, if you’re taking a flight from Ottawa International Airport, they say you can save some time by making customs declarations in advance.
Travelers are also being urged to make sure they have their passports and other documentation ready, look up their import duty exemption limits, and avoid trying to travel with cannabis.
