Prescott’s Mayor is thanking Stanley Cup champion Ben Hutton for bringing the trophy back to his hometown.
Hutton, who won the cup alongside the Las Vegas Golden Knights earlier this summer, visited Prescott on Friday to give local fans a chance to get pictures and autographs.
Hundreds of fans and residents attended the event, including Bill Hutt, a local who has followed Hutton’s career for years.
“This makes me proud that I’m from Prescott and he’s from Prescott,” Hutt said. “It’s really good to see this turnout today for him, he’s a very, very nice gentleman and he deserves it. He deserves this good day.”
Hutton was born and raised in Prescott, graduating from South Grenville District High School and playing for the Kemptville 73s before entering the NHL.
Mayor Shankar said seeing the trophy marked a “very proud moment” for the community.
“To have one of our own Prescott boys win the cup, and share the cup with us, it’s just a fantastic moment,” he says. “You can tell by the crowd that they all love and appreciate Ben, and we’re so proud of him, and it’s a great day.”
Hutton is still under contract with the Golden Knights and is set to play for the team again when the 2023-24 season begins.
