Kelly’s Beach, three others unsafe for swimming this week

Merrickville Beach is no longer on the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s list of unsafe beaches, but there are others you should avoid.

According to the organization, Kelly’s Beach in Prescott and Sand Lake Beach in Westport have high concentrations of e. coli bacteria in their water.

The Health Unit tests local beaches weekly for the bacteria, which can cause ear, eye and throat infections if you’re exposed to it.

Almonte Beach and Riverside Beach in Carleton Place are also still on the list after being added earlier this month.

Signs have been posted at all four beaches warning swimmers to go elsewhere. The Health Unit releases updated testing results every Friday until the end of August.
