Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s beach testing program starts next week

With the summer officially underway, staff members at the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit say you’ll soon get weekly updates on beach safety.

The organization is launching its annual summer beach testing program next week.

The initiative sees samples collected from 23 public beaches in the region and tested for E. Coli bacteria, which can cause ear, eye, nose and throat infections in high concentrations.

Unsafe beaches will have signs posted outside warning swimmers to go elsewhere, and will be added to a list on the Health Unit’s website.

Samples are collected and tested weekly, and updates are set to be posted every Friday on the Health Unit’s website, from June 30th to September 1st.
