Fat Les’s “CHEO Day” fundraising event returns June 20th

After bringing in $4,500 for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) last year, Les Winters says his food truck chain is hosting another fundraiser this month.

Winters’ “Fat Les’s” chain will be donating all the sales from an item on its menu at all fifteen locations to CHEO on June 20th.

Winters says giving back to the hospital is important to him because of how it’s helped his family in the past.

“CHEO is one of the best hospitals in eastern Ontario for children,” he says. “I’ve had my brother’s daughter in there quite a bit, and she’s now cancer-free, and I just want to give back to what gave her her life back.”

Winters says he hopes to raise more money than last year.

“It’s a very tight community,” he says, “and dollars are also tight right now, so I understand [if we don’t]. We’re hoping for the best.”

If June 20th doesn’t work for you but you still want to contribute, Winters says you can go to a Fat Les’s location right now and tell the staff you want to donate.

“We will make sure it all gets there,” he explains. “Again, our goal is to beat last year, and every year that we do this, we’re hoping to go a little higher.”
