Fire Chief: total burn ban could last into next week

Renny Raynor says the Prescott Fire Department isn’t planning to lift its total burn ban right now.

Raynor, Prescott’s Fire Chief, says his team is waiting for more rainfall to come to the area before lifting the ban, and he expects other Leeds-Grenville fire departments to do the same.

“We will probably just continue [with the ban], probably throughout the weekend,” he says, “and make a decision around that time. We usually try and do this consistently, so that our neighbours are all on the same page.”

The ban, which came into effect last week, prohibits burn barrels, brush burning, campfires, fireworks and all other open-air fires in the town. Both charcoal and propane barbecues are still allowed.

If anything changes with the burn ban, you’ll be able to find the latest updates on the Town of Prescott’s website.
