South Grenville Food Bank seeking support as summer break begins

With kids returning home for the summer in a few weeks, Bonnie Pidgeon Coogler says the South Grenville Food Bank needs some extra help.

Coogler, the food bank’s Executive Director, says she expects an increase in demand as families have more mouths to feed and can’t rely on support from their kids’ schools.

“When students are not at school, those other programs are not available,” Coogler says. “As in, their lunch programs, breakfast programs and snacks. So, we are going to be looking at increasing what we can give our own clients.”

Coogler says the food bank is seeking donations of things like canned fruits, canned soups, and money to buy fresh food, so kids that rely on the organization can get a healthy, balanced diet.

They also need some additional volunteers to help get food into people’s hands. You can call the Food Bank at 613-213-6636 to learn more.
