Poor air quality can impact health of pets: Vet

The smoky air we’ve been experiencing isn’t just bad for people’s health. It can be dangerous to our animals, too.

Michelle Murphy, of Kemptville Animal Hospital, says that your pet may show signs of distress while the air quality is poor.

“Some signs of respiratory distress in pets include coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing and increased respiratory rates; that’s the panting,” she says. “Sometimes, as well, it will show physically, too. They’ll be pacing; they’ll seem uncomfortable. They won’t seem themselves.”

Murphy recommends people keep plenty of water out for their pets, limit time outdoors and monitor air conditions. If problems remain, take them to a vet.
