(UPDATED) Augusta Township issues total burn ban

UPDATE 2:55 PM: This article has been updated to include information and quotes from Augusta’s Fire Chief, Rob Bowman.

“No campfires, no burning of brush, no burn barrels, chimineas, even agricultural burns are not permitted.”

That’s Augusta’s Fire Chief, Rob Bowman, outlining everything that isn’t permitted in the township right now.

Augusta Fire Rescue issued a burn ban in the area on Sunday. Bowman says fireworks are also prohibited, but you can still use charcoal and propane barbecue.

“Barbecues are allowed to be used for cooking of food, appropriate to the size of the food being cooked,” he says. “So, you couldn’t have a 12-by-12 barbecue for cooking one hotdog.”

Bowman says the ban, which came into effect because of hot, dry conditions that started last week, is being re-evaluated daily, since there’s some rainfall in the forecast.
