Organizers talk goals and details for Relay for Life event

James Dobson says he thinks his team’s $20,000 goal for their upcoming Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser is very achievable.

Dobson is a student at South Grenville District High School (SGDHS), helping to organize its annual “Relay for Life” race.

“Previous years have shown that we can destroy that goal,” Dobson says. “We’re looking to break our all-time record of $35,000.”

The Relay for Life sees teams of 10 doing laps around SGDHS’ outdoor track for 12 hours, collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Brandi Donovan, one of the teachers helping run the event, says the team wants to commemorate local cancer survivors as well.

“If they would like to sign up, we have a special dinner for them and a guest,” she says, “and then we would like to honour them with a special survivor shirt and we honour them with a ‘survivor lap’ [during the Relay].”

If you’re interested in taking part or donating, you can visit the Relay for Life race page to learn how. The event is happening June 2nd.
