CBSA issues reminder on reporting rules for boaters

With the cold of winter behind us, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is reminding residents of the rules they need to follow while boating.

If you go out on the water and cross over into the United States, you need to report it to CBSA if your trip is interrupted.

That includes landing on US soil, anchoring, mooring, making contact with another boat, and embarking or disembarking anyone.

If your trip is uninterrupted, you don’t need to report the trip.

Meanwhile, foreign nationals need to report if they land on Canadian soil, anchor, moor, or make contact with another boat on our side of the border.

Any foreigners who come up for “loop movements” like sightseeing or leisure boating don’t need to report to CBSA as long as their trip isn’t interrupted.

You can find more information, and details for how to report, on the CBSA website.
