South Nation Conservation issues flood watch throughout region

Tree damage and precipitation from Wednesday could lead to increased flooding over the next few days.

That’s from South Nation Conservation (SNC), which has upgraded its Water Safety Statement from late March to a Flood Watch.

According to the organization, the precipitation from Wednesday has significantly increased water levels, and damaged trees and pieces of debris could lead to drains and culverts being blocked.

Those blockages could lead to flooding at bridges, culverts and other similar areas. There’s also a chance for roadway flooding in some parts of the region.

Parents are being encouraged to warn their kids not to play near any bodies of water, and to supervise them carefully.

If you live in a flood-prone area, you should also make sure your sump pump is working properly, secure anything that could float away in a flood, and have a backup generator and pump ready if you lose power during a flood.

Unless SNC issues another update, the flood watch will last until April 12th.
